Why Hobart Drivers Are Protecting Their Paint with PPF

Tasmanian roads are hard on paint. Chip seal, loose gravel on the highway and salty air off the Derwent all take their toll. Stone chips aren't just cosmetic either. They break through the clear coat and leave the paint underneath open to the weather.

Paint Protection Film sits over your factory paint as a physical barrier. Chips, scratches, light scuffs, the film takes the hit instead of your car. That matters most on bonnets, bumpers and mirrors, which cop the worst of it on Tasmanian roads. And when it comes time to sell, unprotected paint with chip damage knocks real money off a trade-in or private sale.

Josh fits every piece of film inside the Van Diemen Detailing workshop, not in a driveway or a carpark. Film needs a clean, sheltered space to go on flat and stay down at the edges. If your car is new, freshly corrected, or just worth looking after, this is how the job gets done properly.

2

Vehicle Drop-Off at the Hobart Workshop

Drop the car at the Van Diemen Detailing workshop in Hobart at the agreed time. The whole job is done indoors, out of the wind and rain.

10 minutes
3

Paint Inspection and Surface Preparation

Before any film goes on, the panels are decontaminated, cleaned down and inspected. Any surface contamination left under PPF will show through the film and cause adhesion issues later. This step is what separates a long-lasting fitment from one that starts lifting at the edges within a year.

4

Film Cutting and Installation

The film is cut to your vehicle's panel shapes and applied panel by panel inside the workshop. Each section is worked flat, edges are wrapped where possible, and every panel is checked for air pockets and alignment before moving to the next. This is the stage that takes time and cannot be rushed.

Paint Protection Film FAQ

The cost depends on how much of the car you are covering. Van Diemen Detailing offers three tiers: Partial Front, Full Front and Full Body. Get in touch with your vehicle details and Josh will come back with a specific quote. There is no standard price list because panel sizes and vehicle shapes vary too much for a one-size number to be honest.
It depends on the car and how much of it you're covering. A full body takes longer than a front end. Josh gives you a drop-off and pick-up time with your quote, so you know how long you'll be without it.
PPF life depends on the quality of the film used, the standard of installation and how the car is maintained. When installed correctly in a controlled indoor environment and looked after properly, good quality film is built to last many years. Van Diemen Detailing will advise on the specific film being used for your car at the time of quoting.
Give the film a week or two before you hit the edges with a pressure washer. After that, wash the car as normal and keep harsh compounds off the film. Josh walks you through it when you collect the car.
Warranty depends on the film used on your car. Ask when you get your quote and Josh will give you a straight answer.
They do different jobs. PPF is a physical barrier that absorbs stone chips, scratches and road debris. Ceramic coating adds chemical resistance, water repellency and gloss enhancement, but it will not stop a stone chip. If stone chip protection is the priority, PPF is the right call. Many owners do both: PPF for physical protection, ceramic coating on top for the finish and ease of cleaning. Talk to Josh about what combination makes sense for your car.
PPF is a workshop-only service at Van Diemen Detailing. Film installation needs a dust-controlled indoor environment to get a clean, lasting result. Drop the car at the Hobart workshop and collect it when the job is done. Josh does not install PPF outdoors or at customer locations.
PPF goes over your existing paint surface, so whatever is under the film stays there. If the paint has visible scratches, swirl marks or oxidation, they will still be visible through the film. In many cases it makes sense to have the paint corrected before film goes on. Josh can assess the paint at drop-off and advise whether correction is worth doing first.
